How Can I Help?
The best way for you to help the pulpit committee is to read and practice Article IV, Section 3 of the church constitution entitled, Duties of Members. May we respectfully point out the constitutional duties of members?
- Faithful Attendance — Each member is expected to faithfully attend worship services, Sunday School, and mid-week services/small group fellowships.
How are you doing on church attendance? From the attendance figures of Sunday School versus worship service, many members are not living up to expectations. There are 175-200 people who do not come to Sunday School. The church body needs your attendance more than ever. Please.
- Financial Support — Each member is expected to participate regularly in giving. New Testament examples indicate that the work of the Lord should be financed by voluntary church-centered offerings.
We have 300 giving units at South. If each one gave $56 per week (the tithe on gross earnings of $30,000), the church would easily meet its expenses. Income is $46,000 under expenses through August 31. Many people are giving several times $56 per week. That means some are missing God's blessings by not participating in this critical part of worship. Please reconsider tithing, for your own sake.
- Dedicated Service — Each member is expected to volunteer to serve within the limits of his/her ability, and to do so in a spirit of unity, cooperation and loyalty.
We have many more opportunities for service than servants. AWANA needs workers. Carman-Ainsworth ministry will soon need tutors and other volunteers. The nursery is always short-staffed. Work days go without volunteers. Now is the time to step up. Call the church office for possible ministry opportunities or to express your interest. You will be the winner.
- Regular Prayer — Each member is expected to support the work of our church and its leaders through faithful prayer.
Prayer is the single most important thing you can do. Pray for the pulpit committee every day. Pray for our new pastor each day. Pray that God will move us deeply as a body. That will make all the difference.
- Loyal Support — The Bible clearly teaches that we are all responsible to our Pastors (and Deacons) who give leadership to our ministry. We recognize that they are human and fallible — but called by God to serve us and they deserve our respect and appreciation.
Your support of the leadership is more important than ever. You can do this by doing the things mentioned above, and by giving us names of potential candidates for the pulpit committee to consider. You should also feel free to ask questions of your leaders during this time, whether they be pastors, deacons, pulpit committee, or teachers. Our goal is to keep you informed.
- Personal Godliness — Each member should seek to live a godly life and prayerfully consider involvement in practices, habits, or associations that might be displeasing to God and injurious to his/her testimony and the testimony of the church.
Personal godliness is a matter of degree and development. We should focus our days on pleasing God. Overexposure to media of any and all kinds stunts our spiritual growth and makes it less likely God will visit us as a body. We must strive to be godly.
Take an inventory of yourself and your family. Are you a member as our constitution anticipates? If you would like to discuss these matters, feel free to contact us for help in improving in any of the areas listed or with suggestions that may help us. Thank you for your support.
